Royals, the huge international hit for New Zealand singer Lorde, has been nominated for song of the year and record of the year at America's premier music awards - the Grammys - in Los Angeles next month.

Lorde - real name, Ella Yelich-O'Connor - will be vying for the award with Bruno Mars (Locked Out of Heaven), Katy Perry (Roar), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Same Love) and Pink (Just Give Me a Reason).

In the record of the year category she's up against Mars (Locked out of Heaven), Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams (Get Lucky), Imagine Dragons (Radioactive) and Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines). She has also been nominated for best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album (Pure Heroine).

Lorde is due to perform alongside Perry, Robin Thicke and Keith Urban at the nominations show in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon LA time.

Grammy organisers were forced to correct their website in the lead-up to the show, after they mistakenly identified her as Australian in a news release about the performers. Lorde's loyal Kiwi fans took to Twitter to put them straight.

A note on the Grammy website said organisers knew she was from New Zealand but somehow Australia was typed accidentally.

"Royals" has only just dropped to No 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart in the US after being No 1 for nine weeks; it also topped the British singles chart for a week. At the 48th annual New Zealand Music Awards last month Lorde won breakthrough artist of the year, the international achievement award, the people's choice award and single of the year for Royals.
