Police have named the man who was shot dead in a small Bay of Plenty community early on Sunday morning.
He was 46-year-old Isaac Dale Bushell.
A 19-year-old man has been charged with Mr Bushell's murder after the shooting in Maketu, near Tauranga.
Police say Mr Bushell's body was found in a park in Beach Road at about 1.45am.
Detective Senior Sergeant Glen Turner says Mr Bushell and the man who's has been charged knew each other, and had been at the same party on Saturday night.
He says the police were alerted after two people, one of whom had been told about the shooting, arrived at the park and found the man dead.
Mr Turner says detectives want to hear from people who may have been in the area from about midnight because they need evidence of the exact time of the shooting.
The 19-year-old man is due to appear in court on Monday.
