NZ services remember Mandela

Memorial services for the late South African president Nelson Mandela are taking place throughout New Zealand on Thursday and Friday.

A service at Wellington's TSB Bank Arena started at midday on Thursday.

Speakers included South African High Commissioner to New Zealand Zodwa Lallie and former Race Relations Conciliator Gregory Fortuin.

Labour MP David Shearer and Wellington's mayor Celia Wade-Brown also attended.

A service at the Transitional Cathedral in Christchurch took place on Thursday, while two other services are planned in Auckland and Ngaruawahia on Friday.

All events have been arranged by the South African High Commission.
