The father of a British tramper who died in a fall from a cliff in Nelson Lakes National Park says his son was a keen outdoor enthusiast who loved New Zealand.

Donald Wyatt , the father of Andrew Wyatt, 41, says his son had earlier walked the length of the North Island and had returned to New Zealand to walk the South Island.

He had also crossed Australia by bicycle on two occasions.

Mr Wyatt says his son loved New Zealand and told his parents about this many times.

He says as a result, he has decided to have his son's body cremated in this country and the ashes spread in Nelson's Garden of Remembrance.
