5:50 pm on 24 January 2014

Alastair Thompson has resigned from his role as interim general secretary of Kim Dotcom's new political party little more than a week after his appointment.

The Internet Party announced the resignation in a statement on Friday afternoon, saying it respects Mr Thompson's choice.

Former Mega chief executive Vikram Kumar will be the interim secretary. The party says it will announce its new permanent general secretary soon.

Mr Thompson had only resigned from his positions at Scoop and the press gallery on 15 January.
