A 6.4-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of New Zealand on Sunday night.
The quake at 10.28pm was centred 730 kilometres out to sea east of Whakatane, at a depth of 33 kilometres.
GeoNet's initial automated report had put the magnitude at 5.1 and the location in the central North Island.
