An updated influenza vaccine will start being distributed in New Zealand from next month.
National Influenza Specialist Group spokesperson Lance Jennings said the vaccine had been upgraded to counter two new strains of flu virus that may arrive here.
Dr Jennings said he was worried people may have become complacent about the flu threat after a very mild influenza season last year.
He suspected the virus would hit harder this winter.
