Power supply ethics prove patchy

The Electricity Authority says eight power companies are not complying with the guidelines that apply to people who rely on power for medical reasons.

The authority's chairperson Brent Layton has told Parliament's commerce select committee that the number of disconnections has gone up and he has written to the eight companies about their failure to comply.

But Dr Layton says they are just guidelines and the authority does not have responsibility for people's welfare.
