Amy Adams says RCN E-Waste Limited has indicated it's likely to default on its obligation to recycle the televisions it collected during the Takeback initiative, which was launched last year.

She says the company has been paid about $4.4 million.

Ms Adams says it appears a significant proportion of the televisions are still waiting to be recycled.

She says the ministry is investigating the implications of the company's failure to honour its contract, and is working with other contractors to ensure the televisions are processed properly.
