Union watching postal services offshore

5:16 am on 11 May 2014

The Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union will keep an eye on how Australia Post is extending its services to fight falling mail volumes.

Australia Post has announced it will begin operating express services six days a week from Christmas this year and all branches will open on Saturdays.

New Zealand Post plans to reduce its services to three days a week from next year, because mail volumes are falling faster than expected.

EPMU postal co-ordinator Joe Gallagher said the union is looking offshore to see how postal services in other countries are dealing with the global decline in mail volumes.
