MFAT reviewing Thai travel advice

8:28 pm on 20 May 2014

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is reviewing its travel advice for Thailand after the Thai army declared martial law.

The military says it has taken the action to preserve peace and order and comes after a long-running political crisis, and escalating tensions between the government and the opposition.

A spokesperson for MFAT says advice for tourists is under review but the current "high risk" warning remains in place for southern provinces and border regions.

"Some risk" is advised elsewhere in the southeast Asian nation.
