New Zealand's Attorney-General Chris Finlayson has met with the FBI's Deputy Director, but is refusing to say whether they discussed internet entrepeneur Kim Dotcom.

Mr Dotcom, a German national with New Zealand residency, is facing extradition to the United States over copyright and money-laundering charges, but his extradition hearing has been delayed.

Mr Finlayson said on Thursday that Mark Giuliano had been in Australia and paid a courtesy call to New Zealand and they discussed issues of cyber crime.

He wouldn't be drawn on whether they spoke about the Dotcom case, saying it is before the courts.

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman said he has no idea why the men met, but it's pretty likely that Kim Dotcom was talked about.

Dr Norman said more information about what was discussed at the meeting should be expected, but the case is highly sensitive for the New Zealand and US governments.

"It's pretty clear all the way through that this whole Dotcom issue was a coordinated activity between the US government and the New Zealand Government, so it's hardly surprising."
