A military funeral has been held at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul for retired Air Marshal Sir Richard Bolt, who died in Lower Hutt on Sunday, aged 91.
Sir Richard trained as a pilot in 1942 before flying Lancaster bombers in World War II.
He took command of the Air Force as Chief of Air Staff in 1974 and became Chief of Defence Staff in 1976 before retiring in 1980, but remained closely involved with veterans' organisations.
Air Force Chief Mike Yardley was among those to attend the funeral on Friday, along with four other retired Air Marshals.
A flypast by a Hercules marked the funeral procession afterwards.
