Arun Kumar, 57, died in his Henderson dairy after being attacked on 10 June this year. Police said he appeared to have stab wounds to his neck.

The 13-year-old, who has name suppression, denies charges of murder and assault with intent to rob. He sought bail at the High Court in Auckland last week.

However, in a decision released to Radio New Zealand today, Justice Ellis declined bail.

The judge's reasons have been suppressed, but she said there are special circumstances and needs that the boy has.

Another boy, aged 12, denies charges of manslaughter and assault with intent to rob. Both are due to go on trial in November.
