Call for more mental health services

8:21 pm on 15 October 2014

The new Minister of Health says Canterbury health professionals have made it clear that more resources are needed in the area for mental health services.

Jonathan Coleman met with doctors, nurses and district health board management in Christchurch today as part of a tour of twenty district health boards.

Dr Coleman said increasing demands on mental health services in Christchurch was clearly a key issue for the area.

He said the impact of the earthquakes had led to an increasing burden on mental health services.

Dr Coleman said he expected more money will go into mental health in the next budget, but could not make any commitments at this stage.
