The Chief High Court Judge says 238 cases are yet to be resolved in a special earthquake list set up in the Christchurch High Court.

Justice Winkelmann has released a report on the effectiveness of the earthquake list, which was set up in May 2012 to manage litigation arising from the 2010/2011 Canterbury earthquakes.

Justice Winkelmann said the judiciary's commitment to the earthquake list reflected the importance of earthquake litigation to the parties and the region.

She said the prompt resolution of earthquake-related litigation in Christchurch was important for the city's rebuild.

Figures show that as at 30 September this year there were 238 active cases, from a total of 359 cases filed since September 2010.

Thirty cases are currently set down for a hearing or awaiting judgment.
