Housing land supply studied

9:12 am on 5 November 2014

The Productivity Commission is seeking public feedback on how to improve the way local government makes land available for housing.

The commission has today released an issues paper as part of an inquiry requested by the Government.

It will be examining and comparing how local authorities throughout the country do things, so as to identify best practice, and will look at cities overseas that may provide valuable lessons.

It will then make several recommendations, touching on areas including urban land supply, the funding of water and transport infrastructure, and transparency of planning systems.

Submissions on the paper are due by 22 December.
