As police wrap up their examination of the scene of a crash near Wanaka which claimed the lives of three Hong Kong tourists yesterday, locals are calling for action on foreign drivers.
Police have named the victims as 60-year-old driver Wing Fai Chan, known as Allan, and two female passengers - Kwai Tei Chong, known as Connie, and Yin Wan Ng.
They were part of a group of nine travelling in two separate vehicles and a fourth tourist was still in Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries, but his condition was stable today.
The driver of the truck which crashed into the victims' vehicle was receiving counselling.
Some residents living in Wanaka and Queenstown have for more action on foreign drivers.
Former Queenstown rental car salesman Dan Gerrard said it should be mandatory for overseas drivers to sit a simple online driving test before getting into a rental car.
He said the test could be similar to the AA online road code test and would not cost very much to implement.
Police said family members of those who died were expected to visit New Zealand in the coming days.
