Real estate listings down again

Far fewer houses were put up for sale last year.

The number of properties listed for sale on the industry's official website fell by more than 28,000 or 17% during 2009, after also falling in 2008.

realestate.co.nz website chief executive Alistair Helm says the data shows the housing market has not fully recovered from two low years.

The average asking price ended the year at $412,000, almost $10,000 higher than a year ago, but still well below its peak of $429,000 in October 2007.
