Tattooed man sought after gun threat

Police are hunting for a heavily tattooed man after a woman reported being threatened with a gun in central Napier on Saturday.

Police say Shannon Watene, 30, is a member of the local chapter of the Mongrel Mob gang.

He has the word "notorious" tattooed across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose, is considered armed and extremely dangerous, and should not be approached.

Police say the armed offenders squad searched several houses on Hastings Street after an incident about 7pm on Saturday.

The woman said a pistol was pointed at her. She knew the man, but no further details of their relationship have been given.

Police say they have had a number of calls from members of the public regarding Mr Watene.

Detective Constable Mike Signal says police been told about addresses Mr Watene has been at in the past few weeks but need information on his current whereabouts.

Police say all his known addresses were checked on Sunday, without success.
