Warning to get in quick for Rugby World Cup tickets

New Zealanders are being warned they may miss out on tickets to the 2011 Rugby World Cup to overseas fans.

Ticket and accommodation packages went on sale on Tuesday and are the only way to secure tickets to the tournament at present.

Individual tickets are not being sold until September.

House of Travel and Seasonz, two official Rugby World Cup travel agents, say most of their inquiries for accommodation and ticket packages have come from overseas fans.

House of Travel spokesperson Brent Thomas says packages for the final and semi-final games, excluding airfares, cost between $NZ4000 and $NZ5000 per person.

The amount is considerably less than the $NZ17,500 the average New Zealander spent on similar packages for the 2007 Rugby World Cup tournament in France.

Mr Thomas says next year's event will be the most affordable one yet - but New Zealanders will have to get in quick.

Meanwhile, Seasonz says it will publish the prices of its World Cup packages next week.
