A fresh charge has been laid against a convicted double rapist arrested on Saturday after a nationwide manhunt.
Maka Renata, 24, appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court on Monday on charges of unlawful possession of prescription medication and breaching parole conditions.
He was remanded in custody to reappear in court on 2 February.
Renata absconded on 23 December from a house in Christchurch where he had been living on parole.
He was apprehended after a tip-off in a house in the Lower Hutt suburb of Alicetown.
Renata was sentenced to prison for rape when he was aged 14. A year later, he raped his cellmate.
Police had considered him dangerous and likely to reoffend.
