Searchers have located an Austrian tramper who went missing in the Tararua Forest Park, north of Wellington, on Wednesday.
David Schopf, 21, was spotted during an aerial search by an airforce helicopter just before 6pm.
He was found about 5 km down river from the Waitewaewae Hut, and winched out of the bush.
When ground teams had earlier searched the area they found remnants of a campfire and some food wrappers.
Three helicopters had been used in the search today including an Air Force Iroquois, and there were 30 people on the ground.
He was now in Levin and had been speaking with the police.
