Police in Nelson will conduct an investigation into the death of a woman while she was being committed to a mental health unit.
The 75-year-old collapsed with breathing difficulties while being taken to a Nelson-Marlborough District Health Board mental unit in Tipahi Street early on Thursday.
She was taken to Nelson Hospital but later died.
Nelson Bays acting area commander Detective Inspector John Winter says two officers were assisting a mental health worker at the time.
Mr Winter says the woman was not being forcibly handled and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
The matter will be referred to the coroner.
