A sell-out crowd of 45,000 turned out at New Zealand's premier music festival.

Festival-goers at the Big Day Out enjoyed blue skies and warm temperatures at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland.

The line-up included New Zealand singers Gin and Ladyhawke, and international acts Groove Armada, Dizzee Rascal and Lily Allen.

Police say in the recent past, the crowd has been well behaved with the number of arrests dropping steadily during the past few years.

About 300 people have been treated by St John Ambulance staff for minor ailments, including headaches, cuts and blisters.
