10:37 am on 17 January 2010

Electricity is back on in the Waikato town of Matamata where a fatal crash brought down several power lines at about 4.30am on Sunday.

Police say the driver of a car died at the scene when her car hit a power pole and rolled onto railway track at the intersection of Hopkins road and Hinuera road.

Seventeen streets were affected. Power was restored by 9am.

The railway line is closed by a power pole across the tracks.
