Napier seige inquest tentatively scheduled

9:22 pm on 19 January 2010

The Coroner's Court has set a tentative date for an inquest into the deaths of two people during an armed siege in Napier in May last year.

Jan Molenaar killed 53-year-old Senior Constable Len Snee and critically wounded two other police officers and another man.

Molenaar, who was 51, barricaded himself in his house on Hospital Hill and shot himself in the head two days later.

Police found 18 firearms and fully loaded magazines in the house, as well as more than 100 used cartridges and more than 2000 bullets.

Coroner David Creara of Dunedin will preside at the inquest, which is scheduled for three days at the end of March.
