Toyota recalls 2.3m cars - but not in New Zealand

Toyota New Zealand says it doesn't believe any of its vehicles have accelerator pad faults. In the United States, 2.3 million Toyotas are being recalled to correct sticking accelerator pedals.

Toyota New Zealand says the vehicles affected have different specifications from those available in this country.

The company's US operation says some accelerator pedals on a number of models might stick when they become worn.

The recall is separate to the action Toyota took in October, when it recalled 4.2 million cars in the US because of pedals getting lodged under floor mats.

Last August, Toyota recalled 690,000 cars in China because of faulty electric window switches.
