10:37 am on 25 January 2010

Police have arrested one of two men sought in relation to the killing of a man whose body was found in a garage in New Plymouth.

Dean Stuart Browne, 38, was found in a garage at a property in Drake street at about 8pm on Friday.

Detective Sergeant Grant Coward has confirmed that Karl Teangiotu Nuku was arrested and taken into custody on Monday morning.

A hunt is still underway for another man, Mikhail Rafael Pandy-Johnson. Another man was arrested on Sunday.

Police say there's no connection between the family that own the house and Mr Browne.

A Radio New Zealand reporter says armed police have increased checks on vehicles going in and out of New Plymouth on State Highway Three.

Officers are stopping drivers and opening car boots in their search for the one outstanding offender.

The checkpoints are causing significant traffic delays.

Information sought on dead man

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward appealed on Morning Report for information about the movements of Mr Browne over the past few months.

Police won't reveal how the men are connected to the inquiry into his death.

Detective Senior Sergeant Coward says questions, such as how and why Mr Browne, who is believed to have been living in Auckland, came to be in New Plymouth, remain unanswered.
