Brake failure halts Suzuki release

3:46 pm on 11 February 2015

The release of a new Suzuki hatchback has been postponed because of a brake failure.

The Suzuki Celerio was only available for one day in the United Kingdom before the recall was ordered.

The fault was found during a media test drive.

Suzuki New Zealand executive Gary Collins said the model would not be released in this country until Suzuki fixed the problem.

"They have identified the component that needs to be replaced. They are working through the process of making those modifications so we are now looking to probably have a release in late March, I would suggest."

Mr Collins said only five of the Celerio cars were in the country and shipping had stopped.

The Celerio is set to cost more than $20,000 in New Zealand.
