Jobs lost as Wellington business shuts

Workers at a circuit board manufacturing business in Wellington are shocked the company is closing its doors in five weeks time.

SRX Global employs nearly 30 staff in its New Zealand branch, but has decided to shift its work to Australia and Malaysia due to what it calls a lack of productivity in this country.

Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing union spokesperson Louisa Jones said the company lacked investments which meant their machinery ran slower and was not up to date.

She said the staff would get a redundancy compensation depending on how long they've been with SRX Global.

On average most staff had been employed for at least 20 years.

The company has offered CV and interview training to help staff get other jobs.
