Warning about fake trade registrations

4:05 pm on 13 February 2015

A trade group is warning homeowners to be wary of tradespeople claiming to be registered or licensed, as a shortage of tradespeople looms, especially in Auckland.

The comment follows Wuming Luo of Bright Baths & Showers being fined $1500 in the Auckland District Court for falsely claiming to be a licensed tradesperson.

The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board said Mr Luo misled an Albany homeowner with business cards which created the impression he was licensed and specialised plumbing work.

The board said 8000 more tradespeople were needed in Auckland in the next five years, and that would increase the number of potentially illegal operators.
