A severe thunderstorm watch for parts of the North Island has been lifted.
But the MetService says heavy showers are still expected in eastern Waikato, Taupo and inland parts of Hawke's Bay and Gisborne.
The Gisborne ranges has had the most rain, with about 70 millimetres of downpour, while areas in Taupo and Waikato got between 10 to 30 millimetres.
The MetService said the heavy showers would ease by midnight.
