Road code 'should be made clearer'

5:37 am on 30 January 2010

The Institute of Driver Educators says the road code isn't as clear as it could be, and a revamp is required.

Changes are needed in some areas, such as the way the code explains the 'give way' rule, the institute says.

Its president, Wayne Young, says the code also contains too much surplus information and advice which is quickly forgotten.

He says the Transport Agency should consult more with the public and driver educators when new editions of the code are put together.

The Transport Agency says while the document is constantly evolving, it does outline road rules in a succinct and understandable way.
