Unicyclists plan 500km road trip

Two friends with a passion for the circus plan to unicycle from Auckland to Levin to attend a juggling convention.

Simon West and his friend, Mitchell Pitch were to set off on Sunday and travel more than 500 kilometres over five days.

Mr West says the idea for the journey came after they unicycled in the Port Hills in Christchurch last year.

They wanted to give themselves a bigger challenge, so they set their sights on cycling to the New Zealand Juggling Convention.

He says they don't have a support crew, but have packed a tent, and will take the trip as it comes. The convention begins on Friday.
