The Auckland Coast Guard went to the rescue of 37 boats on Saturday, dealing with vessels that had capsized or caught fire and others that had simply run out of fuel.
Duty officer Mark Leevers says the team is bracing itself for a busy time during the rest of Auckland anniversary weekend.
Mr Leebers says people need to check their boats are seaworthy and have enough fuel, that they have lifejackets and two forms of reliable communication including a VHF radio.
