Heavy rain in Gisborne has eased after causing havoc on Sunday.
Civil Defence issued an alert for the Gisborne district after river levels rose, damaging a bridge and cutting off 30 people from north-west Gisborne.
It now says the alert is over.
Crews are clearing slips on State Highway Five - the Napier-Taupo Road - and it's expected to open by mid-morning.
