TV reality show 'suspect' ruled out by police

Police investigating the unsolved killing of a teenage girl 34 years ago have ruled out a suspect nominated by a reality television show.

Tracey Patient, 13, was found strangled with pantyhose around her throat in the Waitakere ranges in 1976.

Detective Sergeant Murray Free says the police have been investigating a claim made by psychics in a television show that a neighbour's son was responsible for the killing.

However, Australian authorities have confirmed the man was not in New Zealand at the time of her killing.

Detective Sergeant Free says the police have received a huge number of calls in the past few years about the case, but none have led to them any new information.

He hopes someone's conscience will eventually lead them to come forward.
