Decision on medical merger due

3:02 pm on 6 March 2015

Officials at district health boards are set to make a decision today on a proposal to merge and outsource hospital and community medical testing.

Whether to make a provisional decision on a provider will be decided at a meeting today between the Capital and Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa DHBs.

The plan has sparked criticism from medical specialists, with some labelling it privatisation.

A provider of community medical testing, Aotea Pathology, pulled out of the process leaving only one proposal for the DHBs to consider.

The outcome of the meeting is set to be announced on Monday once staff, unions and health providers are informed.
