3:34 pm on 12 March 2015

Police have arrested a 42-year-old Hutt Valley man in relation to two people being stabbed in Upper Hutt early this morning.

They said the man was appearing in the Hutt Valley District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Officers were called to Gibbons Street in Upper Hutt about 1am today after a person was heard threatening people with a knife.

They arrived to find a gathering was taking place and a search of a nearby house located a woman who had suffered critical knife wounds.

She is in Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit after undergoing surgery and is described as being in a critical condition.

The second victim, a man, was also in hospital receiving treatment to a wound on his arm.

Police were continuing a scene examination at the house.

In a separate incident, a woman has been charged with murder over the stabbing of a Porirua man last night who died later in hospital.
