Vettori downplays influence over NZ team

6:50 pm on 3 February 2010

New Zealand cricket captain Dan Vettori says he does not have total control of the team and his main role is leading the side on the field.

Vettori has become something of a one-man band recently - captain, coach and selector and an allrounder as a player.

There has been talk that 'player power' runs the side, but Vettori says he does not run the team on a day-to-day basis, with the manager and coach taking that role.

The Black Caps take on Bangladesh in a Twenty20 international in Hamilton on Wednesday night, their first match under new coach Mark Greatbatch.
