Air Force to research drinking patterns of pilots

11:27 am on 3 February 2010

The Royal New Zealand Air Force is to study the drinking habits of its pilots and other personnel.

The research at clubrooms at the Woodbourne, Ohakea and Whenuapai bases as well as headquarters in Wellington, is to assess the role of alcohol in the air force.

The RNZAF says the study is not prompted by any obvious issues.

The Alcohol Advisory Council is to contribute up to $90,000 for the research.

ALAC says it expects honest answers as New Zealanders are generally prepared to talk openly about drinking.
