Ashburton shooting trial date set

A trial date has been confirmed for the man accused of the Ashburton Work and Income office shootings.

Russell John Tully is charged with the murder of Work and Income officers Peggy Noble and Leigh Cleveland, who were shot dead in Ashburton on 1 September last year.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of Lindy Curtis, who was shot in the leg.

Mr Tully appeared in court this morning via video link but suppressions are in place surrounding what was discussed.

He will appear in the Christchurch District Court on 21 April for a pre-trial call over and the trial is scheduled to start on 11 May.
