Call for more help for disabled at petrol stations

Organisations supporting people with disabilities say they are not getting enough help at petrol stations.

CCS Disability Action says customers needing help often have problems attracting staff members' attention and some drive around several stations before they are successful.

Sigjaws Charitable Trust says it is disappointing that Chevron is the only petrol company that has shown an interest in finding a solution.

The trust says customers with disabilities can suffer injuries if they try to get out of their cars.

CCS spokesperson Peter Wilson says it hopes to meet with Chevron which is fine-tuning a system where customers hold up a card to attract the attention of staff.
