Two airlines have announced they will add further flights to Melbourne for this weekend's cricket final, after fans struggled to find affordable airfares.

Air New Zealand's flight, offering more than 300 seats in each direction for fans who want to get to the match, will leave Auckland on Sunday morning and return on Monday morning.

The airline said return fares on the charter service would be offered for $991.

Seats on an extra flight Air New Zealand added earlier sold out within an hour.

Virgin Australia has also announced two extra flights leaving from Auckland before Sunday's match.

It is also putting on extra return flights to Auckland and Christchurch.

All tickets to the final in Melbourne had sold out, but organisers said cricket lovers still had a chance, because, after tonight's semi-final between Australia and India, disappointed fans from the losing side might put theirs up for sale.
