The average amount of time it takes for criminal cases to get through the High Court is getting longer, hitting 388 days.
The Ministry of Justice released figures showing the average time for jury trials increased by 11.4 percent in 2014 from the previous year.
A ministry spokesperson said the time for the High Court in Auckland to hear a trial has increased to one year.
The spokesperson said the time an active criminal case spends in the High Court was affected by things such as a person's fitness to stand trial.
Justice Minister Amy Adams said the Government was focussed on reducing delays in the courts, as they were frustrating and distressing for all concerned, particularly the victims.
