Moderate drinking message pushed to Maori

The manager of the Maori arm of the Alcohol Advisory Council (ALAC) says it is working hard this year to promote the message of moderate drinking.

Gilbert Taurua, recently appointed to implement the Maori action plan strategy at ALAC, says abstinence is not a reality in Maori society today.

He told Waatea News it's important to spread the message of how to reduce alcohol-related harm, and he plans to do so at popular Maori events throughout the year.

Mr Taurua says ALAC will be looking at launching a new social marketing campaign in March.
