NZers in Yemen advised to leave

8:33 pm on 7 April 2015

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade say any citizens still in Yemen should quit the country because there is extreme risk to their security, with major threats of terrorism or kidnapping.

As the Saudi Arabia-led military campaign continues against the Houthi rebels who have overrun large swathes of Yemen, many countries are evacuating their citizens from the country.

India has rescued more than 2000 of its citizens, flying nearly 700 out over the Easter weekend, and taking another thousand on naval ships.

Another 23 countries - Including America - were asking for Indian assistance in evacuating their citizens.
