A Christchurch trust is set to take over the operation of Nelson's Natureland zoo, guaranteeing its future.
Nelson City Council has decided to accept a proposal from Christchurch's Orana Wildlife Trust to take over the running of the zoo from October.
The council has also pledged eight years of funding, or more than $1million, months after it was ready to close down the zoo.
The plan will see the small, ageing zoo revitalised by the Trust, which runs other such facilities around the country.
In March, scores of people marched up Trafalgar Street to the council offices to protest against the council's plan to close Natureland.
