Police receive number of Gloriavale calls

3:08 pm on 7 May 2015

Police have received a number of calls from people airing concerns about the Gloriavale community.

They set up the freephone number for the growing number of people wanting to discuss their experiences at the West Coast settlement.

Police would not say how many calls had been received or the nature of the calls.

The West Coast Christian community was being investigated as a result of allegations by former members, including inappropriate relationships between some adults and minors.

Tasman District Commander Superintendent, Karyn Malthus said anyone who called the 0800 number would not have their identity made public.

Ms Malthus said it was difficult for some people who have left Gloriavale to come forward, so they needed to know they can have their say in confidence.

The number set up by police is 0800 400 800
